Where Robotics Research and Industry Collide

Yujin Robot is one of many startup companies that is trying to find a path in the void between industrial robotics and emerging academic research. This introduces some interesting challenges that often requires problem solving in domains that are not encompassed by either of the former groups. In this session, I'll introduce some of the difficulties our control group faces in such an environment as well as an overview of some of the solutions: low-cost arm manipulation techniques, resolving the costly and many layered onion that is robotics, portable efficiency with Willow Garage's RoS and the idiosyncrasies of east-west consumer expectations. I'll also present a brief overview on our latest project which evolved and applies a corner vision slam to a marketable product.
